Roope Kivimaa

Roope Kivimaa is a Finnish composer and musician (violin/piano).

Despite his classical background Kivimaa hardly cares about the boundaries between musical genres. He has moved from cinematic expression to contemporary classical music and from North Indian influences all the way to progressive rock. Simply put: Kivimaa tends to compose whatever sounds and feels good in his mind.

After a large amount of unpublished orchestral & chamber music and some commissioned theatre music, "Above" (2021) was Roope's first own cost album. It is "chamber prog" with mostly violin and piano sounds. The second album, "The Canon of All Great Escapists", was released in 2025, taking a huge leap from Above's chamber instrumentalism to versatile progressive/psychedelic rock and avant-pop.

Roope Kivimaa also arranges and composes music for theatre and other purposes.
